Lost Treasures: The Maytals – “Just Tell Me”

Released only in Jamaica as a single, this 1966 ‘rock-steady’ classic appears on a few Trojan compilations released over the years in the US & UK.  A half dozen years later & a name change emphasizing leader/lead singer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, this reggae group began receiving airplay on North American & UK album-rock radio.  For a very brief period in the early 70’s, Toots & the Maytals seemed almost poised to eclipse Bob Marley & The Wailers in popularity & record sales.  Now aged 75, Toots Hibbert is still performing, touring & recording, with his offspring as back-up band & singers.  Happy Friday readers!  Kick it off with some solid rock-steady & remember to crank it up loud to share with your neighbors!
