Our Lost Christmas Classic this week is Chuck Berry’s rarely heard cover of “Merry Christmas Baby” released in 1958 on Chess records. We’re all familiar with the original 1947 recording by original artist Charles Brown & written by Johnny Moore. Brown was the pianist & vocalist of Moore’s LA group The Three Blazers at the time the song was written. While I love any version of this slow blues number, my favorite version is undoubtedly by Chuck Berry. This song was the intended “A-side” of the single, but the “B-Side” is far more familiar – “Run Rudolph Run” which ended up the hit side. Have a great weekend!
