Lost Treasures: Jr Walker & The All Stars – “Monkey Jump”

This week’s Lost Treasure was released on Motown subsidiary Soul Records in 1964.  Jr Walker & The All Stars scored big with hits “Shotgun”, “Shake & Finger Pop” & later on with “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)?”  However, the group had minor success on the R&B charts with a number of other singles.  “Monkey Jump” is a funky blues number & was the intended B-side of “Satan’s Blues”  However, a number of soul formatted stations, mostly in the southeast were uncomfortable with the A-side title & implications & instead began playing the B-side “Monkey Jump”  After the hits dried up in the 1970’s, Jr Walker continued to record & reformed the All Stars in 1980 performing live & again doing back-up at Motown Records after resigning with the label in 1983.  Walker passed away in 1995 at age 64.  The Puget Sound Media weather forecast is for sunny, warm conditions this weekend to enjoy, so kick it off with this great blues track from Jr Walker!
