KNKX To Participate In Jazz Media Lab

KNKX Tacoma, along with other select jazz stations, will receive a grant of up to $275,000 (per station) over three years, from the The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF). This is an effort to establish a project called “Jazz Media Lab”. KNKX is one of five stations chosen for this project. The effort is to “provide these stations with a peer network, support system and contracted resource team for exploring and advancing strategies to diversify their listening bases, invest in new media platforms, engage with venues and community organizations, and establish meaningful relationships with jazz artists”.
Each of the stations participating in the Jazz Media Lab will receive general operating support grants of $225,000 over three years to enable their time commitment to the program and provide predictable income and stable operations during this period of economic instability. Additionally, in the program’s second year, each grantee will be eligible to receive a supplemental grant of up to $50,000 in innovation funds for a defined project. RadioInsight.com

  1. The sale of KPLU from Pacific Lutheran was unfortunate and net a loss for the South Puget Sound community. I used to listen to them daily. Glad that PLU was not allowed to keep money bequeathed to the station after the sale. They took enough from the local community by selling the station.
